Echo
Graduate Furniture Design

Furniture Design

OVERVIEW: This project asked students to design and fabricate a piece of furniture from one 4’x8’x3/4″ sheet of plywood that could be flat pack shipped, use little to no hardware and glue, and minimize material waste.

CONCEPT: The design of the Echo coffee table was inspired by a Japanese print of white swallows on a navy-blue background. The pattern was adapted to reflect geometric and ridged shapes and inspired linear lines and repetition throughout the furniture design. The project objective was to produce a flat pack design using only the footprint of a 4’x8’ birch plywood panel.
